This itinerary is built specifically to maximise your odds of witnessing one: extra nights positioned at both the northern Serengeti and the Maasai Mara during the peak crossing window, rather than a single overnight stop at each on the way to somewhere else. On the Kenyan side, we use a private conservancy adjoining the Mara reserve, permitting off-road driving and night drives that the national reserve itself does not allow, real advantages when trying to be in the right place at the right moment. Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your Journey, Day by Day
Land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, connecting by light aircraft directly to the northern Serengeti. Afternoon game drive on arrival, getting oriented along the Mara River's Tanzanian bank.
A full day along the river, watching herd movement and positioning for crossing activity. Your guide reads the herds' behaviour throughout the day, gathering points, hesitation, agitation, that often precede a crossing attempt.
A second full day in the same area. Patience is genuinely part of the experience here, and being positioned for multiple consecutive days, rather than passing through once, meaningfully improves your odds of witnessing a crossing.
A third full day, with the option of a bush breakfast out on the plains between drives.
A full day inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, watching the river from the Kenyan bank and covering ground the private conservancy doesn't reach.
A full day of game viewing with off-road access, plus the option of a night drive, both unavailable inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve itself.
