Private Great Migration Safaris in the Serengeti

Calving on the southern plains from January to March, river crossings in the north from July to October. Private safaris timed to where the herds are the week you travel.

01 — Private migration safaris

We track the herds year-round, so you arrive in the right place.

More than a million wildebeest move in a continuous loop between the Serengeti and Kenya's Masai Mara. Where you should stay depends entirely on when you travel, and on rainfall that shifts the herds from one year to the next.

From January to March the herds calve on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu. From July to October they cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. Between those seasons they move through the central and western Serengeti.

Because our safaris are private, we can move camps or change routes to follow the latest reports from our guides.

03 — Questions

Planning a private migration safari

When is the best time to see the Great Migration?

January to March for calving in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu, and July to October for the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti. The herds move through the central and western Serengeti in between.

Is a river crossing guaranteed?

No one can guarantee a crossing; the herds decide. Staying close to the river for several days, with a private vehicle, gives you the best chance.

How much does a private migration safari in Tanzania cost?

Our private migration safaris start from $1,655 per person. The final price depends on the season, the camps you choose and how many of you travel together, and every quote is itemised. Our guide How Much Does a Tanzania Safari Cost? explains each part.
